Introduction to Electronics
The word ‘Electronics’ is derived from electron mechanics which means the study of the behavior of an electron under different conditions of externally applied fields.
The Institute of Radio Engineering (IRE) has given a standard definition of electronics in the Proceedings of IRE, Vol .38
(1950) as “that field of science and engineering, which deals with electron devices and their utilization.” Here an electron device is “a device in which conduction take place by the movement of electrons through a vacuum, a gas or a semiconductor”.
Compared to the more established branches such as civil, mechanical, electrical, etc., electronics is a newcomer in the field of engineering. Until recently, It was considered an integral part of electrical engineering, but due to tremendous advancement during the last few decades, its now gained its rightful place.
