How to Know the exact value of resistors

Color Coding of Resistors

Some resistances are large enough to have their resistance (in Ω) printed on the body. However, there are some resistors that are too small to have a number printed on them. Therefore, a system of color coding is used to indicate their values. For the fixed, moulded resistors, four color bands are printed on one end of the outer casing. The color band always read from left to right at the end that has closest to it.

The first and second band represent the first and second significant digits, respectively, of the resistance value, The third band is for the number of zeroes that follow the second digit, The fourth band represents the manufacturer’s tolerance, It is a measure of the precision, if the fourth band was not present then the tolerance is assumed to be +/- 20%.
